Introduction to Leatherworking Workshops at Heal’s

196 Tottenham Court Road, London W1 T 7LQ

Sat 6 May 2017

11.45am-2pm, Introduction to Leatherwork with SABEL, 2.25 hour, £32

2.30-6pm Meet the Maker, free

Experience traditional saddlery techniques with SABEL Saddlery at Heals and learn how to hand-stitch, hand-burnish and personalise a luggage tag/keyring.

A short course for absolute beginners, QEST Scholar Mia Sabel, a qualified Saddler, will teach you the very basics of traditional saddlery, including a short demonstration on leather, preparation and tools, and then hands-on hand-stitching, hand-burnishing and personalisation.

Over the course of the workshop, you’ll try out these techniques, learning how to double-stitch and create your own personalised leather luggage tag/keyring which you can take home. You can choose from a selected range of leather and thread colours.

This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in working with leather, and we will provide you with a pair of needles and polishing cloth/gum to take home, and supply you with a document containing a list of tools, specialist suppliers, other training courses and the basic equipment you’ll need to get you started.

This will prepare you for our 3 evening course at Blackhorse Workshop in East London.
Check our events page for dates.

MEET THE MAKER

After the workshop at Heal’s, Mia will be demonstrating traditional saddlery skills such as hand-stitching and hand-burnishing in making her bespoke and fitted watch straps.
